Elephants are the biggest land animals alive today. They live in Africa and in parts of Asia, and they travel in family groups led by an older female. An elephant's trunk is its nose, its hand and its water hose all in one — it can pull up grass, greet a friend or spray a cooling shower.

Look closer

Look at the elephant's ears in the photo. Why might such big, thin ears help on a hot day?
